Position Information Class Code: X131C Grade: GS07 FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT Salary Range: $40,340.00 - $64,343.00 Summary The DFA Regulatory Enforcement Agent is responsible for the enforcement of all Arkansas alcohol, tobacco, and medical marijuana laws. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy. Functions Enforces all federal, state, and local laws regarding alcohol, tobacco, and medical marijuana including the sale, possession, purchase, and transportation of products. Employs basic law enforcement skills, observes activity occurring in the area of assignment, and is alert to acts which may result in violations or any other serious crime. Collects evidence and testifies at hearings and in court. Responds to reports of a crime in progress, conducts a crime scene assessment, intervenes to terminate criminal acts or to investigate and initiate appropriate actions, and issues summons or citations for misdemeanor crimes or violations, as prescribed in the agency rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and applicable state law. Inspects the records of permit holders to ensure compliance with Arkansas laws, including compliance checks to enforce underage sales of alcohol and tobacco products, conducts inspections of permitted businesses for violations of state laws, and writes violation reports for illegal activities at permitted outlets. Performs other duties as assigned. Dimensions Shift work involving irregular working hours, to include holidays and weekends, is occasionally required. Carrying and use a firearm while on duty and frequent travel within assigned area is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of law enforcement operating standards and procedures. Knowledge of surveillance and investigative techniques. Knowledge of basic state and federal tobacco laws. Ability to qualify with a firearm as required by agency manual of rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to perform investigations and make arrests. Ability to secure and document evidence of crimes and civil violations. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports. Ability to use covert audio and video surveillance equipment, including body wire. Minimum Qualifications The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree in criminal justice, criminology, public administration, or a related field, plus one year of law enforcement investigations experience, or experience in electronic forensics or a crime scene division. OR the formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, plus five years of law enforcement experience with two years in investigation, electronic forensics, or a crime scene division.
